Graham Turner has said that new loan signing Sam Hewson gives the club a chance to look at one of Manchester United's promising youngsters.
"The loan system that we used so effectively last season has not worked quite so well in the first half of this one," said Turner as reported by the Worcester News.
"But there is always an opportunity to take advantage as some of the bigger clubs wish to lend out some of their promising young stars.
"Sam Hewson is an example of that. He has been developed through their youth policy and played a number of games in their reserves.
"The staff at Old Trafford believe it is now high time that he tasted first-team action."
Meanwhile midfielder Hewson has been speaking about meeting the Hereford United manager.
"Graham Turner discussed matters in great detail with me and my agent," said Hewson.
"We felt that the positives suited my style of play. I’m excited about playing and, because the Leeds game was called off, I’ve got a week to get to know the lads before the Scunthorpe game.
"Our gaffer (Alex Ferguson) told me good things about how Hereford play and their passing style.
"I am confident I can help the club to get a few results and climb up the table.
"I have been at Manchester United since I was a young lad but I’ve come to Hereford to prove a point and to gain first-team experience. This is my first taste of coming out on loan to another club.
"Some of my mates have gone on to the first-team at Manchester United, but I have not had a lucky break.
"I am only contracted until the end of the season at Manchester United but I’m confident that I can take this experience back to Old Trafford and make more of an impact.
"With Hereford fighting against relegation, each game has a significant importance and it’s imperative that we play well and pick up as many points as we can."
Hewson's agent, Jamie Holsgrove, has also commented about the youngster.
"Sam has been there or thereabouts for a couple of seasons and all parties agreed that first-team football was a priority for him.
"There were a number of Championship and League 1 clubs interested but, all things considered, Hereford came as the obvious choice regardless of their league position."
