Preview: Darlington vs Bulls

The Bulls travel north to the Darlington Arena on Monday in a game that could see the Bulls mathematically safe for the season.

The Bulls have won the last three games against the Quakers and will be looking for a second double this term. Earlier in the season, with Colin Todd already dispensed with by the Quakers, the Bulls won 2-1 at Edgar Street with goals from Keith Lowe and Darren Jones in a game that should have seen a much higher scoreline. Overall the Bulls have won just 11 of the 39 previous meetings, with 14 draws.

Since dispensing with the services of Steve Staunton, the Quakers have won two out of two. Staunton earned just 14 points from his 25 games, and took the tally of players used to 51. When new boss Simon Davey fielded his first side at Burton on Saturday only defender Paul Arnison, a virtual outcast under Staunton, was in the starting XI that faced the Bulls just five months before. One of Staunton's signings, Irish striker Tadgh Purcell, has given the Quakers hope in recent weeks. The former Shamrock Rovers frontman has scored eight in sixteen games to make him by far their top scorer with teenager Curtis Main coming second in the list with just three.

A win for the Bulls would not only seal the second double of the season, but would also see the Bulls mathematically safe if Grimsby lose their match at Accrington. It's a far cry from the uncomfortable fidgeting most Bulls fans were doing four games ago before John Trewick got the chop. Players now seem to be queueing up to sing the praises of Graham Turner. It may be because he's handing out the new contracts, but it could well be that they want him as permanent manager. That appears unlikely to happen, and the guessing game as to who will be next in the hotseat will probably continue into the early part of the summer.
