The Battle of the Defences

Given that Cambridge had conceeded seven and Hereford nine goals in their last two games, Martin Foyle felt it was the 'battle of the defences today'.

"They were probably worse than we were," Foyle told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"It's a nervy time and I don't know why because we've been very good at home.

"But their first goal was a mistake and then everybody's heads dropped

"But credit to the players they fought back into the game and it was a good goal. Marley came inside and Ryan got around the keeper.

"And then the penalty before half-time. You just knew it wasn't going to go in.

"But give credit to the lads second half, they've come out and dug in again."

Cambridge went ahead in the 47th minute but then three Hereford goals in five minutes.

"It was important that we got an early reply, Sam Clucas with a magnificent finish with his weaker foot."

And then two goals from Marlon Jackson.

"He's been chomping at the bit, he's been in the background for a while.

"I'm going home happy with three points but there's loads of work to do."

Foyle the spoke about striker Ryan Bowman.

"Ryan is going to be one of those unsung heroes.

"He holds the ball up well, he brings his chest into the game, he heads the ball well. He's got a lot of attributes.

"There's not many flaws in his game other than he's young and has got to learn the game."

Finally the sending off of Bryon Anthony.

"The old  Arsène Wenger one - I didn't see it as the dug-out cuts out.

"Some of the boys said he got the ball, and one or two said he actually got off the ground.

"It's a costly one as we've only got five defenders as it is. So help!"
