Currently there are two main items of interest 'around' Edgar Street.
Construction Looking From Blachfriars Street |
Firstly the construction on the former livestock market continues. Completion is expected later next year. The site will include a Waitrose, Debenhams, and a new cinema.
The Line Of Trees With The New Development On The Left |
Secondly there is a lot of debate over whether the line of trees that currently stand in the middle of the A49 should be cut down.
The fourteen lime trees stem from the roundabout towards Blackfriars Street, close by where the new shopping centre is being built.
However the Highways Agency wants to remove them, though it's thought doing so wouldn't improve traffic flow.
Indeed some locals have suggested the trees help noise reduction in the area.
Last Thursday evening about 50 people turned up to hug the trees and protest about their probable removal.
One later commented that it seems strange that there was money to chop down trees but no money to keep the public toilets open in Hereford.
