It has been reported that Mustapha Dumbuya, now improving his game with Richard O'Kelly at Doncaster, had a trial with Hereford United in summer 2009.
The previous season Dumbuya, a defender, played for Wingate & Finchley and Maidenhead United and before moving to the Moathouse Stadium.
"We are big on the personality and the character of the person we bring to the football club," O'Kelly told the Star.
"We don't always get it right but any person who signs a contract and comes through the door at Doncaster Rovers needs to be the right character, personality and want to improve and do things the way we do.
"When Mustapha first came to the club we thought that he had all those qualities so hopefully he can keep going from strength to strength."
O'Kelly, who had a succesful spell as coach at Edgar Street under Graham Turner, also spoke about the difficulties of picking a player from non-league.
"Mustapha is a long way away from being the finished article. Like any player, if you start to listen the plaudits coming your way you can become complacent.
"Mustapha has got a long way to go but in the two games (recently) he has played he certainly has not done his case any harm.
"In pop music, you have one hit wonders and in football sometimes you have one season wonders.
"He has started very well but the trick as a professional footballer is to do it day in, day out. He has got to keep on coming to training to try and improve himself and then going out and playing the game becomes second nature."
Dumbuya was with Grays when he came on trial to Hereford.
"I’ve played for Wingate and Finchley, Maidenhead and Grays Athletic, whilst at these clubs I had trials with Gillingham and Hereford United but was turned down by both for lack of experience," said Dumbuya last summer.
"I also trained with Fulham for a period."
He also had a loan spell with Bournemouth last season.

Hereford's Loss is O'Kelly's Gain
Preview: Bulls vs Southend
The Bulls entertain Southend on Saturday looking for their first home win of the season.
The two sides have met in only one of the last 20 years, in League One two seasons ago. The Shrimpers won both games 1-0 with the game at Edgar Street notable for the hotly disputed penalty, given away by a debutant Darren Dennehy, that ex-Bull Theo Robinson converted. Overall, Southend come to Edgar Street with seven straight wins against the Bulls stretching back to 1986.
The Bulls will draw encouragement from their performance in the face of adversity at Bury, saving a penalty and holding out for 20 minutes with ten men before conceding deep into injury time. With Kenny Lunt suspended, the big question is who will form the central midfield pairing. O'Neill Thompson, a figure much criticised after his defensive performance against Oxford, was missing at Bury and may get a recall, while Dan Stratford or Sam Gwynne may also be considered.
Southend travel to Edgar Street on the back of two straight losses and five goals conceded. Paul Sturrock's hastily assembled squad has done better than many expected, but even Sturrock himself admits that their current position is overstating their abilities and that new faces must be found. He is chasing a loan striker with son Blair on the end of much criticism from fans for his front line performances.

Grant On Trial At Southend
Former Bulls striker John Grant is one of four players currently on trial at Saturday's opponents Southend.
The former Crewe and Aldershot man was reported to be dropping out of the full time game in the summer to pursue a career in youth work near his Manchester home, so a trial at Southend is a surprising move.
The 29 year old spent a solitary season at Edgar Street, scoring a disappointing four goals in 26 games. He ended last season on loan at Oxford before being released by the Shots in May.
Meanwhile, former Bull Rob Purdie has finally made a playing comeback in Oldham's 1-1 reserve draw with Barrow this morning. Purdie, who has not made a competitive appearance for the Latics after being injured pre-season shortly after his arrival in May 2009, scored the Latics' goal after pouncing on a rebounded effort.

Four Home Games in Next Five for Bulls
Hereford United have four home games in their next five. Three are League Two games and the other is a Paint Trophy tie against Exeter.

Three home games in the League should give the Bulls the chance to move up the table, whilst the game against Exeter will give supporters another chance to remember Adam Stansfield who played for both clubs.
Manager Simon Davey feels optimistic.
"We've got a pretty big game next weekend and we've got to capitalise on being at home," said Davey.
"Two home games, we should be looking to get six points."
Tuesday Evening Sport on H&W
A new Tuesday evening sports programme has its first airing this evening on BBC Hereford and Worcester at 7pm.
Whilst H&W haven't released much detail about the contents of the programme, it will be introduced by Georgie Frost and will cover the game between Fleetwood Town and Kidderminster.

Northampton have signed Newcastle defender Ben Tozer on a months loan. The former Swindon man will be eligible to play against the Bulls on Oct 16th. Croydon Athletic have been told that their owner must lodge a bond with the Ryman League by midnight to stop them being kicked out. The bond is unlikely to be placed as owner Mazhar Majeed has gone to ground.
FC United of Manchester are to part-finance their planned stadium with a £1.5million community share offer. The offer will allow locals to help fund community aspects of the stadium, with potential for them to make a profit if the facilities are well used. Kettering have ended the reign of manager Lee Harper after just seven points from nine games that left them in the Conference relegation zone.
Sheff Weds are claimed to be the target of a consortium headed by former Hartlepool boss Chris Turner. Turner, also a former manager at Hillsborough, is said to be backed by an oil company but it is unclear whether it is the same company that is involved with Hartlepool.
Strikers don't grow on Trees
Anyone who has followed the fortunes of Hereford United this season to date will know that none of its strikers have scored a goal with the exception of Guillem Bauza's penalty last Saturday at Bury.
Manager Simon Davey has recently brought in two more strikers giving him the choice of six but to little avail.
The same problem appears to be happening at Southend, who travel to Herefordshire this coming weekend.
Manager Paul Sturrock needs another striker and has admitted the job of finding one will not be easy.
"I’m sure everyone walked away from the game with Morecambe on Saturday saying ‘we need a striker, we need a striker’, but they don’t just grow on trees," Sturrock told the Southend Echo.
"You also look in the Conference and one team just sold a striker to another Conference club for £275,000 which is an expense we couldn’t afford at this time.
"There used to be a bit of pinching from that level going on, but that isn’t the case any more, so it is difficult."
At least his strikers are scoring some goals. Barry Corr's current tally is three.
Away Kit can be Sponsored
Hereford United have announced that the orange away kit can now be sponsored.
"We have been delighted with the response to our sponsorship programme and now need to start offering the away kit to meet demand," said club vice-chairman Tim Russon.
Captain Janos Kovacs is the first player to be sponsored. Shropshire based accountants Whittingham Ridell have backed him.

Evans To Ref Southend Game
Manchester based referee Karl Evans is the man in charge of Saturday's match at Edgar Street.
It will be his fourth trip to Edgar Street, and his sixth match featuring the Bulls, but the Bulls have won only one of the matches with him in charge. That win came in his last visit in April, when Barnet were beaten 2-1 thanks to a James McQuilkin strike and an own goal.
He is one of the more lenient referees, booking an average of less than three players per game across his four year FL career and no more than two players in each of his five games this term.
News Round Up
Gillingham have signed winger Bruce Inkango on a short term deal following a trial. Dagenham midfielder Stuart Thurgood has been forced to retire due to a serious knee injury. He damaged cartilage last November, but four operations since have failed to cure the problem.
Darlington's attempts to sign free agent striker Leon Knight have collapsed after former club Rushden, who sacked Knight in 2008, demanded a £30,000 fee. Oldham boss Paul Dickov says that players that were out of their price range in the summer are now offering to play for the club for free in a bid to earn a contract due to clubs slashing their squad sizes.
Wycombe have banned four supporters from home games, and from buying tickets for away matches, with the local press suggesting they were involved in forming a hooligan group on a forum. No Bulls in the Team of the Week, which features two each from Accrington, Port Vale, and Chesterfield. Ex-Bulls Jordon Mutch and John Eustace make the XI in the Championship.
Two Meetings This Week
There are two meetings this week for different groups of Bulls fans.
Tomorrow night the London Bulls meet up at the Marquis of Granby, Smith Square in Westminster. The meeting starts at 6pm with David Keyte, Tim Russon, and MP Jesse Norman all expected to attend.
On Wednesday the VP Club will get their first chance to formally meet David Keyte and Tim Russon. The 7pm meeting, in the VP Club lounge, will see the pair outline their plans for the running of the VP club with Veronica Richardson retiring from her position at the helm at the end of the month.

Benjamin Moves Upstairs
Trevor Benjamin has moved again, but this time within the same club.
The 31 year old has become manager of current club Morpeth Town. The Northern League Second Division side has seen their manager Tom Wade poached by West Allotment Celtic of the First Division.
He will be assisted at Morpeth by former Bulls kitman Lawrence Appleby. He joined the club from Bedlington where he worked as Club Secretary alongside manager Wade. He finished with the Bulls in 2007 after racking up thousands of miles getting to games home and away from his Newcastle base.

News Round Up
The Manchester press are speculating that both Jimmy Harvey and Jimmy Quinn will be candidates for the vacant Altrincham post. In an article in the NLP the club is claimed to have had a playing budget last season of £6,300 a week over the 38 week season with only four sides having smaller budgets this term - Histon, Southport, Tamworth, and Bath.
Port Vale boss Micky Adams is pushing for former Bulls loanee Lee Collins to sign a new contract with the club. The 21 year old is out of contract at the end of the season and has been attracting interest from Championship sides. The Valiants four successive away wins to start this season is a club record. Conf South side Welling have been docked five points for filing inaccurate financial returns to the Conference. The charges came over a debt to the HMRC that the club say is due to promised investment not materialising.
Former Bulls loanee Peter Gulacsi made a second loan move to Tranmere on Friday, and was guilty of dropping the ball - literally - for Charlton's equaliser at the weekend. The Hungarian had five games on loan at the club at the end of last season. Wrexham boss Dean Saunders can concentrate on his day job after he was confirmed to be no longer working part-time with Wales, with his job there ending with John Toshack's removal.
We should have held out - Bartlett
Speaking to BBC Hereford and Worcester after yesterday's game, keeper Adam Bartlett was disappointed the Bulls came away with just one point.
"Disappointed to come away with the one point when we should have held out," said Bartlett.
"The goal in injury time deflated the lads a little bit."
Asked by Keith Hall about the penalty Barts revealed he had done his homework on Bury.
"When he (Bishop) stepped up I had a little look and Ryan Valentine knew from previous clubs he likes to wait and have a little look at the goalkeeper. I held my ground and luckily guessed the right way.
"It was a good performance from the lads. They worked their socks off from the front to the back. Going down to ten men when Kenny got sent off made it even tougher."
What about Bury's disallowed goal?
"They didn't wait for the whistle. The referee was just leaving where the free-kick was being taken from. It was a little bit of fortune for us.
"But to be fair to the referee he had said it had to be taken on the whistle which it wasn't.
"They put us under a lot of pressure. They bomb-barded us for the last twenty minutes.
"It's a shame we couldn't hold out because it would have been a big three points for us."
Bauza's First Goal for The Bulls
Guillem Bauza only started to train with the Bulls on Friday, so scoring yesterday at Bury on his debut doesn't come much better.
"The referee gave the penalty and I was ready for it," Bauza told BBC Hereford and Worcester.
"My team-mates let me take it so I was handed that responsibility and I was happy with it.
"I enjoyed that goal, my first with Hereford. The fans deserved that joy and I gave it to them.
"Yesterday (Friday) was my first day of training. My team-mates were good, they received me with open arms. They are a really good bunch of players."
Bauza is hoping to continue his studies at Swansea University whilst playing for Hereford.
"I'm doing a degree in genetics. I will continue with it as much as is possible.
"But now I'm focusing on my football career.
"Studying time I've got all my life, football careers are short."
Longest Goal Drought for Bulls
Yesterday's penalty goal for Hereford United came some 29 minutes beyond their previous longest goalscoring drought.
It was back in spring 2007 that the 630 minute record was set. The Bulls went on a barren run starting with the game against Grimsby on March 10th. Then nothing from the games against Darlington, Accrington, MK Dons, Swindon and Walsall.
The previous Saturday at Hartlepool the Bulls were defeated 3-2 in a highly entertaining game. The home side went 2-1 up but then the Bulls equalised.
Simon Travis delivered a cross towards Connell, who went down under the challenge of Clark claiming a penalty, but whilst everyone else appealed to the ref, Guinan latched onto the loose ball and smashed in a volley from close range.
That was the last goal the Bulls would score until April 14th when the played Boston at Edgar Street. And it was Guinan who broke the duck.
On fifty six minutes, on the next real attack, the deadlock was broken and it was no suprise at all it was The Whites who'd scored. Brown gathered a corner and, although Hereford were slow getting out, Williams made a run and Brown's kick was direct. Thomas popped up in support on the right and played a pass behind the left back for the run of Travis, but his cross was cut out. It fell to Smith, but his shot was blocked before it fell into the path of Guinan, who made no mistake from close range at the back post.
Yesterday the Bulls needed a goal within the first 17 minutes to avoid breaking the unwanted record. It didn't happen and we had to wait until the 46th minute for the goal.
The Bulls were quickly out of the blocks in the second period and opened the scoring with their first goal since Kovacs' header at Crewe in the opening game when Bauza converted from the spot. Buaza broke into the Bury penalty area and as he shaped to shoot from about 8 yards had his leg hooked away by Picken. The Spaniard grabbed the ball himself and coolly side footed passed Belford.
A new record of 659 minutes without a goal was set, the last goal being scored by Janos Kovacs at Crewe on the opening day of the season.
The Bulls broke down the right flank through Fleetwood and his cross was met by a Canham header which was deflected wide for a corner from which Kovacs thumped a header passed home keeper, Rhys Taylor.

Battling Bulls earn point at Bury
The four minutes of added time proved a step too far as Hereford conceded a late Ryan Lowe equalising goal at Gigg Lane this afternoon after debutant Guillem Bauza had converted from the spot early in the second half.
Simon Davey made three changes introducing Bauza to the attack and recalling both fit-again Michael Townsend and James McQuilkin.
Bartlett was quickly down to comfortably gather a snap shot from Bishop early on and was also called to action shortly afterwards to beat away a swerving angled shot from the edge of the box from Jones. The Shakers were the sharper outfit during the first quarter although Bartlett was only required to take some regulation crosses and a couple of shots from distance as the central pairing of Rose and Townsend provided a solid guard.
Fleetwood made ground down the left before switching the ball inside to Manset before the ball found it's way to Colbeck via Wee Jimmy but the wingers cross was cleared at the expense of the first corner of the game. McQuilkin's flag-kick failed to produce a threat on goal and neither did Bauza's effort just after as he blazed over from 15 yards. Valentine was harshly penalised when Lowe threw himself to the floor over the fullbacks outstretched leg when the Bulls defender had already cleared the ball but fortunately, Lowe's free kick was deflected wide by Richard Rose. Then with less than ten minutes of the half remaining, Bury were awarded one of the softest penalties I've ever seen. As the ball was swung in from the right, Lowe and Townsend tracked it across in front of the six-yard area with Lowe tugging at Townsend’s shirt. As the Bulls defender pushed his arm away, Lowe tumbled to the ground and referee Eltringham pointed to the spot. Justice was, however, seen as Bartlett dived to his right to save Bishops low penalty kick. The half ended with Colbeck testing home keeper Belford and The Bulls, although still scoreless, having given a good account of themselves largely due to a sensible formation and players doing their jobs.

From then on, it was pretty much backs to the wall as Bury launched balls into the Bulls penalty area looking for flicks from Bishop to produce the chances for an equaliser. Valentine conceded a foul close to the touchline and the quickly taken free kick was glanced in by Lowe but the strike was ruled out when the referee insisted on a re-take.
Bury continued to pepper The Bulls back line and substitute Danny Carlton missed a decent chance although The Beast also had a chance to grab a second goal the visitors when he burst into the box but Belford was out to narrow the angle and the ball cannoned off his leg to safety. Worrall forced a fingertip save from Bartlett with a stinging effort. Then with the game already into the four added minutes, Sweeney saw a shot bounce off the top of the bar before a last gasp cross from the right was headed in at the back post by Ryan Lowe to level the scores.

This was, certainly in the first half, a performance much improved on the previous week. Rose and Townsend looked a decent, solid pairing and the Lunt/McQuilkin partnership generally worked well until the early bath beckoned. Colbeck and Fleetwood, on the flanks, both worked hard while Bauza offered something new as he hovered around the space just behind Manset to time his moves late into the box. Whilst it was disappointing to concede so late in the game, a draw was probably a fair result given the imbalance caused by the dismissal. The game was watched by 2753 with a reported 152 in the away end. With a week to get used to the new player and the balanced 4-4-2 looking more promising, the visit of Southend next Saturday suddenly starts to look more appetising.

Lindley Catering and Out Of Date Pies
Some Hereford United supporters were sold out of date pies at Gigg Lane this afternoon. And guess who has the catering contract there - that's right Lindley Catering.
When taken to task about the pies the lady supervisor said that they had only been delivered yesterday.
In which case they should have been rejected as our picture shows they were 'use by' August 27th and that's over three weeks (22 days) ago.

Knill pleased with point
Bury manager Alan Knill spoke to the press after this afternoon's drawn game with Hereford.
"I'm not saying we played unbelievably well but I think we looked most likely to score," said Knill as reported on the Bury OS.
"We could easily be sitting here after a 1-0 loss, but we took a point out of a desperate situation.
"I know it's difficult to be patient, and I know everyone wants us to win. In every sport you have to deal with the pressure and expectation. The only way to carry that expectation is to get the results, and we just need to carry on building.
"Maybe I should have taken the penalty away from Bish, but they decided between themselves who would take it.
"I was pleased with the players, and we scored because we didn't smash it, we passed it."
Strange Game said Davey
Hereford United manager Simon Davey told BBC Hereford and Worcester that it had been 'a strange game' at Gigg Lane this afternoon.
"Before the game you'd have probably said a point would be good away at Bury," he said.
"It was a strange game, to lose a soft penalty and for Barts to save it and then to gain a penalty ourselves and score it.
Players and fans celebrate Guillem Bauza's penalty which put the Bulls in the lead.
"Hang on for grim death as we were down to 10 men, have a great chance to go two goals up when Mathieu Manset was through one-on-one but their keeper makes a good save.
"And then it was backs against the wall stuff as we were down to 10 men but at the end of the day I'm proud of every one of them as they worked their socks off today.
"They tried to get a result, they've ended up getting a point, we've got a goal in the net which is a big relief and a big monkey off our backs.
"And it was a striker so we can stop talking about strikers not scoring.
"We can build from that."

John Eustace scored the opener as Watford hammered Millwall 6-1. Tamika Mkandawire started on the bench but was brought on to try and stem the flow of goals, while Theo Robinson was a half time sub for his Lions debut. Andy Williams was booked for Yeovil as they lost at Huddersfield. Tony Capaldi was booked on his debut for Morecambe but helped them to beat Southend.
Alan Connell scored for Grimsby for the fourth successive game but they lost at home to Fleetwood. Leon Constantine scored for York on his first start for them as they beat Hayes and Yeading. Jon Wallis scored as Dover put six past Farnborough.

The Bulls ended a 660 minute goal drought with a Guillem Bauza penalty to get a point at Bury.
The 1-1 draw had a saved home penalty before the Bulls scored their own, only for Kenny Lunt to receive a second booking and leave his teammates with 20 minutes left to defend the slender lead.
