Guinan leaves Cheltenham Town

Steve Guinan has been released today by Cheltenham Town but not without some kind words from manager John Ward.

Guinan, who scored the winning goal for the Robins in the 2006 play-off final at the Millennium Stadium, joined Cheltenham from Hereford United in the summer of 2004 and made 95 starting and 16 substitute appearances whilst scoring 18 goals.

This season he started the first 16 League games but lost his place to either Damian Spencer or Steven Gillespie. He then spent three months on loan at Edgar Street.

"Steve worked very hard for the cause and for the team and he can take great pride in what he has done for this football club," Ward told the Cheltenham website.

"He goes from here with some great memories, particularly of his part in last season's promotion, but we just needed a few more goals this season unfortunately.

"Having said that, I've no doubt that we will see Steve again down here at Whaddon Road playing for another club."
