Cardiff-born Curtis McDonald, released by the Bluebirds at the end of last season, is on trial with Hereford United this week according to the Welsh press.
19 year old midfielder, McDonald made one appearance from the substitutes bench for Cardiff at the end of 2005-06. He also had a short loan spell at Accrington Stanley last season but failed to make an appearence.
Graham Turner had told the Hereford Times that there were currently trialists at Edgar Street including 'pros from Derby County, Cardiff City, Bournemouth and Birmingham among others.'
Meanwhile Simon Travis is said to be talking over a move to Torquay with his wife.
Newport manager Peter Beadle has been telling the South Wales Argus about ex-Hereford United goalkeeper Glyn Thompson who have just moved to the South Wales club.
"Glyn was offered a contract with Hereford, but wanted first team football and luckily he agreed to come to us," said Beadle.
"I think he was at a crossroads in his career where he wanted to be first choice. He has been unfortunate in his career so far in that he has never had a crack at keeping his place and has always been thought of as a number two.
"Keepers need a break sometimes - they can find themselves in the side when there is an injury and straight out again when the number one recovers.
"Glyn had that last season with Hereford but I have told him that I believe if a player does the job then they keep their place."
Meanwhile, Alex Jeannin has been offered a contract by Oxford after a successful trial.
