News Round Up

Peterboro have again raided the non-league scene, taking Kettering striker Rene Howe for an undisclosed sum. The 20 year old was the Conference North top scorer last season with 25 goals, and has signed a four year deal at London Road.

Exeter have signed striker Steve Basham from Oxford. The 29 year old has been out injured for the last six months, and the move is unlikely to calm the natives fears after seeing a string of players depart the club over the summer.

Several Conference sides have followed the Football League and banned smoking inside the stadium. Both Rushden and Kidderminster have stopped smokers while Altrincham, who had a long time smoking ban on their wooden stand, have banned smoking everywhere but the open terraces.

Northampton have signed midfielder Giles Coke from Mansfield on a two year deal. Coke, 21, rejected new terms at Field Mill and the fee will be decided by a tribunal. Swindon chiefs have moved to calm fears over the future of the club after they missed a June 30th deadline to submit a £900,000 CVA payment, adding that a 'positive announcement' would be made later in the week.

Wycombe have confirmed that striker Tommy Mooney will leave the club after finding first team opportunities limited during the latter part of last season. Mooney, now 36, has struggled for fitness over 90 minutes during most of last season after a glittering first year at Adams Park. The club have also axed a fifth backroom member, youth coach Scott Marshall, as finances bite.
