Worst goal tally for seasons

All seasons vary but this one has to be Hereford United's worst for goals scored for many years.

It is only four seasons ago that the Bulls amassed 103 goals. This season's 45 shows the contrast.

Alan Connell, pictured after the Torquay game with fitness trainer Tony Ford and Tim Sills in the background, was Hereford's top scorer this season with just ten goals. Rob Purdie scored nine with most of them coming from penalties early in the season.

Coach John Trewick spoke about the problem after another goal-less outing at Torquay last Saturday.

"Our biggest problem has been scoring goals, with only 45 from our 46 games, and we will need to analyse why," Trewick told the Western Daily Press.

"Defensively we have done well, keeping 17 clean sheets from which we have collected 37 points.

"We now know what is required in this league and aim to achieve more consistency. We will look back over the season and see how we can improve"
