Trophy Rules allow for extra-time
The rules for this afternoon's FA Trophy match between Accrington Stanley and Hereford United can include thirty minutes of extra time if both clubs agree beforehand. This rule is seldom used but could save clubs having to replay next week should the scores be level at full-time.
The Rule on the FA.com Site is as follows:
Extra Time in First Matches
If a first match is drawn after 90 minutes, an extra 30 minutes may be played and 15 minutes shall be played in each half. The agreement for the playing of extra time shall be agreed by both Clubs and confirmed in writing prior to the match and notified to the Referee not later than 30 minutes prior to kick-off.
It seems highly unlikely that Hereford United would ask for this rule to be used unless thought that it might save a replay next week which would probably not be a very attractive fixture both from the clubs' and supporters' point of view.
However bearing in mind the heavy fixture list over the next month the Bulls may be hoping for a result today whichever way it goes.
Meanwhile should Hereford United lose, they will have to wait until Sunday afternoon to see whether their Conference game with Carlisle goes ahead on February 5th. Carlisle are facied to defeat Redditch so it looks as though the game between the Cumbrians and the Bulls will be postponed. But since Exeter draw with Manchester United, Redditch could just fancy their chances.
