Hereford hope to rebuild two stands

An announcement that Hereford United are hoping to rebuild their two end stands has been made this morning.

BBC Hereford and Worcester are reporting that the redevelopement will be partially financed by including other amenities, like offices or a cinema underneath the stands.

"We could pull a block of toilets down and rebuild them but to do that and then have it pulled down again because of further developement in eighteen months time would be a waste of money.

"We want a master plan at each end. It will take some finance to get that sorted out, but they are desparately in need of being refurbished and that's what the aim is," said Turner.

BBC H&W did a report from the ground this morning. They described the area as looking a little bit shabby and Graham Turner agreed.

"We have got to bring the ground up to a standard where it is acceptable to our supporters. Toilet blocks, canteen facilities. turnstiles, even the terraces themselves, all those have got to be done at the two ends, the Meadow End and the Blackfriars End and they've got to be done fairly rapidly.

"So we will be looking for help from the Richardsons, we will be looking for help from certainly the Council and I think we have got to start to be proactive.

"I think we realise the strength that we have got because we have got a terrific support base here and we can influence the opinion of both the Richardsons and the Council and we're prepared to do that.

"So I think over the next few weeks we have got to start to be pro-active. We want an extension to the leases and we want to start putting plans in place to get the two ends done.

"What we've got is a situation where we owe a million pounds to the developers and we want be able to get away from that. So what we hope to incorporate something that will suit them and at the same time get the ends developed. And if its office space, if it's a cinema, if it's residential that's fine. They can make some money out of that.

"From our point of view if we can get the two ends refurbished with good facilities for supporters, and we can somehow incorporate the million pound debt into it, good."

The reporter then talked to a Council Official who appeared not to like the idea of Hereford United going ahead with their plans outside of the Edgar Strret Grid plans. More from the Council later.
