Mawson thanks Morecambe fans

Craig Mawson, the Hereford United goalkeeper, faced Morecambe this afternoon for the first time since leaving the Lancashire club and must have been a little nervous in front of his old team and supporters.

"I expected to have more to do," he told BBC Hereford and Worcester after the game.

"I was at Morecambe for three years and they were the type of team that would work the opposition goalie and create chance after chance, but it wasn't the case today.

"I wondered what sort of reception I would get off the travelling Morecambe fans but they were brilliant to be fair. I had three happy years up there but that has gone.

Talking about the Morecambe goal, Mawson said it was annoying.

"The last thing before we go out there, we have the set pieces up on the board. Who is marking who, you stay with your man. To get caught cold in the first two minutes was very disappointing.

"No one panicked. We showed great discipline and stuck to our game plan and we got our goal. But we pressed and pressed (for another) but couldn't break them down."
