Trouble at Hucknall Trophy game.

Hucknall Town supporters were involved in trouble at their FA Trophy match last weekend at Cambridge City reports the Cambridge News. Hucknall travel to Hereford in the next round on March 12th.

Seven supporters were ejected as fans clashed at Cambridge City's home game against Hucknall Town.

The trouble began midway through the first half of Saturday's FA Trophy clash, when a visiting fan attempted to tear down a flag put up by City fans known as the Shed Choir.

One Hucknall fan later claimed the incident involved just one supporter who took offence to City supporters chanting 'You're a Muppet town near Mansfield'.

Stewards moved in to separate supporters, with police called in on the advice of City manager Gary Roberts, himself a police constable. Officers arrived at half time and seven youths were thrown out of the ground.

There were reports a woman police officer was punched while fans were being evicted. The youths are believed to have then tried to get served at the nearby Portland Arms pub but were refused.

It was claimed a dozen football fans who have been banned from Football League grounds were on a coach from a pub in Hucknall and some had been drinking since 8.30am.

Arthur Eastham, City chairman, said Hucknall's true supporters were "absolutely brilliant", but a "bunch of idiots" had caused problems and spoiled the game.

He said: "Gary Roberts actually got hold of a spectators' mobile, rang me and said these lads need evicting.

"I thought people's safety was paramount . If it was heavy-handed, I don't care. I think we did the right thing."

Mr Roberts said: "I am not blaming Hucknall. A lot of them were people banned from Football League grounds who came to cause trouble."
