Hereford United can secure their place in the play offs tomorrow evening when they take on Woking at Kingsfield. It is a huge game for both sides, as Woking still hold promotion aspirations of their own, but these could be killed off if they fail to win.
Woking currently sit in sixth place in the Conference level on points with Morecambe, who occupy the final play off place with sixty seven. Woking will remain in sixth place if they defeat United tomorrow though, assuming Morecambe and Aldershot win their respective games against Forest Green and Accrington Stanley, as they have a goal difference of 15, which is two less than Morecambe's.
However, if Woking fail to win this game then their play off hopes, if not mathematically, are realisticly over. If they loose and Morecambe win, then Woking would need a significant last day victory against Halifax at the Shay. Hereford only need one point from the visit to Kingfield to ensure that they are in the play offs for a second season running. If other results also go their way then they can move up to second place, in front of Carlisle who face a difficult trip down south to Barnet. A win for Hereford would probably guarantee them third place, hence an away game for the first leg of the play offs, and, should Carlisle be defeated, mean that the Bulls would need only a point against Accrington on the last day to take second place.
Glenn Cockerill is unlikely to change his side who defeated Accrington on Saturday and have no injury doubts to worry about. The only possible change would be the introduction of Simon Jackson into the starting eleven after he impressed as a sub against Accrington. Confidence is likely to be high amongst the hosts though, following Gary McDonald's late winner on the weekend, which sent the Kingfield faithful and players into raptures. They are expected to throw everything at the Bulls, in the same fashion that Halifax did on Saturday.
Hereford will be without Tony James, who has recovered from his ankle injury but is not yet match fit, but it would be difficult for him to regain his place after the recent performance from Andy Tretton and Tamika Mkandawire, who have been in superb form at the back for the Bulls. Danny Williams was injured early on against the Shaymen in United's last outing but is expected to be fit enough to face the Cards. If he isn't then Graham Turner has the option of calling on the services of Brian Smikle.
Craig Stanley missed training today but should be able to play in the game. He is one of many players nursing an injury, in his case a groin strain. Jamie Pitman was left on the bench against Halifax so he could give his shoulder, which has popped out a couple of times, a rest. Graham Hyde was a more than adequete replacement and may continure in his place. Lee Mills is another player who is carrying a knock and is also suffering from tiredness having played a lot of football in recent weeks. Danny Carey-Bertram and Leroy Williams are ready to step in if Mills is rested, as Graham Turner suggested in an interview on the offical Hereford United website.
Darryl Taylor has finished his loan spell at Edgar Street early due to his knee injury and has returned to Walsall for treatment.
Graham Turner knows it will be tough but commented that Woking will not be the only one's who are full of confidence.
"We still need to take something from the game to secure our place in the play-offs, and Woking need a win as well. It's a difficult game, we know that, but with the form we're in we'll go there with lots of confidence."
