Chester Face Game Behind Closed Doors

Chester face playing local rivals Wrexham behind closed doors after the Football League ordered their rearranged League Two match to be played on the evening of March 7th.

The game, originally scheduled for December 28th, was frozen off from the allotted 12 noon kick off, with the original evening kick off having been refused by the local safety group. It is now likely that, unless a compromise is agreed, the game will be played behind closed doors with the Police amongst the group refusing to sanction an evening kick-off - meaning that a crowd cannot be admitted.

The reverse fixture has no such safety concerns for the safety group responsible for Wrexham's ground, with a Saturday afternoon kick-off on March 26th currently acceptable to all, but the last two meetings in Chester have led to major problems with over 100 officers required to prevent a situation from becoming "a full-scale riot" according to Police.
