Addison remembers 1972 and looks forward to tomorrow

Colin Addison has been talking about 1972, the year he took Hereford into the Football League and looking forward to Leicester tomorrow.

Interviewed by Dave Bradley for BBC Hereford and Worcester, Addison was first asked what it was like back in 1972 to get into the League.

"You had to be voted into the League then. At the first count we were level with Barrow on 24 votes each so there had to be a re-vote and then we pipped them

"And I can remember the excitement when they announced it, I just couldn't take it in. I don't think any of us could. The chairman, Frank Miles, bless him,or the directors. All of us hit the ceiling with the excitement to think we would be playing League football later that year.

"You had to do a lot of canvassing, get round the clubs, talk to them looking for their votes. There was a lot of hard work.

"I had a good side and just like Graham (Turner) now he's got a very good side together now and I fancy them strongly tomorrow.

"It's been a long time without League football at Edgar Street.

"I've said to Graham in recent months, not just jumping on the bandwagon in recent weeks, their form has been good and I fancy them to win tomorrow.

"I've been reading the Hereford Times. Ten thousand are going to make the trip and Graham saying it's 'the biggest buzz in my eleven years at the club'.

"The town is really jumping.

"I've been in Spain these last few days and I've just come back into it and everybody is so excited about this game tomorrow in Leicester.

"All signposts point towards Leicester tomorrow and I'm sure Graham's got the boys wound up and raring to go."
