Grant says Halifax are the best

Former Hereford United striker, John Grant, has said that he thinks Halifax were the best team in the Conference this season.

"I believe we were the best team in the Conference," he told HalifaxToday. "We battered Accrington in both games we played against them and they got late goals against us.

"You could see from the relief in their faces that they were delighted to have come back.

"Even their manager said they were lucky to get the two points against us.

"If we had picked up six points from those games I think we could have pushed them close for the title."

Grant doesn't yet know if he will start against Hereford on Saturday but expects some stick from Bulls fans when he does set foot on the pitch.

"I always get stick from the Hereford fans, but it always makes you play better.

"I had a hard time at Hereford when I was there. I broke my leg and was away from my two kids which really tough.

"It was not the best time of my career so far, but everything in football happens for a reason so you cannot be mad about it.

"If things didn't happen how they did at Hereford, I might not have been at Halifax now.

"That was my path and it has worked out well for me so far. Hopefully Halifax Town will be a League team next season and I will be a League player.

"I have still got a lot of friends at Hereford though, and I am really looking forward to the game.

"I've gone a few games without scoring. I see the play-offs as a cup competition and I haven't scored in it yet.

"Hopefully I have saved that for the final - whether I start or not I will be ready."
