Bowyer and Son still in the record books

The reuniteing of father and son, Gary and Lee Johnson, at Bristol City after a previous spell at Yeovil has prompted the Bristol Evening Post to look at other father and son combinations in football

Gary probably won't ever play football again so the pair are unlikely to get into the record books for a father and son both playing for a League side at the same time. They are, therefore, not going to match the acheivement of the Bowyers at Edgar Street.

Ian Bowyer, a former member of Nottingham Forest's European Cup-winning squad, was player/manager of the Bulls in 1990 when he played in the same team as his son Gary.

The pair featured together for Hereford United against Scunthorpe United in April 1990 before Gary left to join Forest.

The Bulls drew the away game 3-3 with Bowyer Junior scoring in the last minutes of the game.

There is only one other father and son who have played together. They were Alec and David Herd, who played for Stockport County against Hartlepool in 1951.
