Hereford United missed out on a mid-fielder this week.
Graham Turner told BBC Hereford and Worcester that money was the probable reason the player did not come to Edgar Street.
"As I look through the second division you realise the quality of the teams in there, some of the money that's going around, not only in transfer fees but particularily in wages.
"We were waiting for one mid-field player this week. He's been at one or two clubs, spoke to one or two clubs, but in the end he signed for Swindon.
"The size of the offer is the reason we missed out on him."
Paul Evans is thought to be the player Turner was talking about. He was formerly with Nottingham Forest.
31 year-old Evans, who has two full Welsh caps, was born in Oswestry. He started his career at Shrewsbury.
