Crawley Town's future will be decided today by Administrator Rob Sadler and the club's creditors - with the only bid on the table likely to be rejected.
Current owners the SAG Group, run by Azwar and Chas Majeed, are believed to have lodged the only bid to take control of the ailing Conference club. Four other bidders including former diamond dealer John Goodwin and the Supporters Trust have failed to lodge bids.
A senior Supporters Trust member posted the following on the Crawley forum: "Independent advice received about the viability of the club showed that it's biggest asset was the fact it is a conference club. That is also it's biggest liability. And with no guarantees forthcoming from the conference about it's continued status THIS SEASON the risk wasn't viable."
It is believed that at least £400,000 was needed to rescue the club from insolvency and satisfy the Administrator, and fans are horrified that the Majeeds are the only bidder. BBC Southern Counties Radio reports that the Inland Revenue will oppose the Majeed's bid after the pair saw the club move almost £1.4million in debt under their control, losing £650,000 last season with a large chunk of it owed to the IR.
