Ex-Bulls Suffer Opening Day Woes

Several of last season's side were in Conference action on Saturday - but few had anything to cheer about.

Craig Mawson conceded twice as Halifax went down 2-0 to Oxford, Jamie Pitman couldn't stop Forest Green losing 1-0 to Dagenham, though one time loanee Anwar Uddin scored the goal, Craig Stanley's Morecambe also went down 1-0 to Burton, and Danny Carey-Bertram's Cambridge joined them in losing 1-0 - to Northwich. Adam Stansfield's debut for Exeter was a goalless draw with York. Bertrand Cozic also made a brief sub appearance.

Tony James did have something to cheer about - from the stands. Another ex-Bull Ben Smith scored the fastest goal of the day as Weymouth beat Tamworth 3-1 without the injured James. Another former Bull Neil Grayson, now 41, was also on the scoresheet with a penalty in Stafford's 1-1 draw with Grays, and John Grant scored twice for Aldershot in their 3-1 win over Gravesend - his first double in 28 months.

Goalkeeper Paul Harrison, signed by Southport, was an unused sub in their draw with Woking, but one ex-Bull to get off the bench was Brian Smikle whose Kidderminster side was already 3-0 down by the time the young winger was called on at half time.
