Hartlepool chairman Ken Hodcroft has admitted that no new signings can be made by the club until more players are shipped out as a result of the League's wage cap.
With spending on wages limited to 60% of turnover, and lower income from the League following their relegation to League Two, Hartlepool have offloaded four players and will have to show the door to more in order for boss Danny Wilson to strengthen:
"All League 2 clubs must comply under the Salary Cost Management (SCM) rules laid down by the Football League which basically means our player salaries must not exceed 60% of the Club's turnover. As we have arrived from League 1 we found ourselves not complying. From 15 July we are unable to buy or bring in on loan any players until we reach that requirement," Hodcroft revealed to the club website.
"The departures of Chris Llewellyn, Thomas Butler and Adam Boyd and the loan of Darrell Clarke to Rochdale helps us move towards it. However, it also depends on revenue and we receive considerably less from the Football League in this division so we need support through the turnstiles."
Hartlepool are the second club this season, following Chester, to admit a problem with the wage cap.
