Whalley worried about absent fans

Accrington Stanley chairman, Eric Whalley, has spoken about the low attendances at the Milkmens first two home games. Last Saturday only 1639 went through the turnstiles whereas 3834 watched Hereford United.

"The last thing we want to do is sound like we are complaining all the time, and we're certainly not calling the people of Accrington for not coming to our games. And while we would like more people from the town to come and watch us, we appreciate that these days there are all kinds of other demands on people's time and money and it is up to us to look at ways of making our matches maybe more appealing and certainly more affordable, particularly to families," Whalley told his official website.

"When we set our budgets at the start of the season we deliberately used low gate figures, after all we still have to be able to cover our expenditure even if we had an awful start. But the simple fact of the matter is that we don't want to just break even! We have come a long way in the last few years, the ground is unrecognisable from ten years ago, however we have to look to the future. Reaching League Two was fantastic and we want to continue to develop, and to do this we need the money to fund it.

"We want the people of Accrington to be proud of their football club, unfortunately the area does have its problems, but Stanley is one of the town's true success stories."
