The Bulls entertain Bury for the first time in over 10 years on Saturday, and will look to maintain a decent home record against the Shakers.
The Bulls have won four of their last five matches against Bury at Edgar Street. The last meeting, in March 1996, saw Bury claim their only win in that sequence with Bulls legend Phil Stant bagging the winner for the Shakers in a 4-3 win after Steve White had put the Bulls into a 2-1 half time lead.
The Bulls loan keeper Scott Tynan will hopefully have had a meet and greet session with captain Tamika Mkandawire after a second horrific own goal in four days suggested the two had never met before. Tynan has received some harsh criticism for his part in the calamities but pulled off several good saves in both matches. The re-jigged formula of playing all four first team strikers from the start had its benefits, but as legs grew tired later on fresh attacking players were not available and another shuffle of the pack is expected for Saturday.
Bury started the season badly but have strung some good results together recently. After four straight defeats a Carling Cup win at Sunderland kick-started their season to three straight wins, but back-to-back 1-0 losses to Darlington and Torquay have halted their rise from the bottom of the table. With Man City youngster Kasper Schmeichel back in goal they have conceded just two goals in four games after conceding 10 in the previous five with veteran Alan Fettis.
There are several names in the Bury squad that Bulls fans will recognise. Defender Chris Brass was player-boss at York when the Bulls "welcomed" them to the Conference, and Andy Bishop was last season's Conference top scorer and scored against the Bulls in our last Conference league match. Former Bulls loanee Daryl Taylor has also recently joined the Shakers, coming off the bench in the last two games.
