Chester Set To Release Branch

It has been revealed that one of the two players negotiating pay-offs on their contracts at Chester is Michael Branch.

The former £500,000 Wolves man has been a peripheral figure this season after a pre-season bust up with manager Mark Wright, and a proposed loan move to Rochdale has been stifled by Chester's need to remove the high earner from their near the limit wage bill.

Mark Wright earlier this week admitted he still needed a goalkeeper and a striker, but added that he was 'like a kid in a candy shop' and was looking at every possibility. His efforts to find a striker has seen a string of targets arrive at the Deva Stadium for trial. This weeks name is that of Leighton McGivern, who spent the 2004/5 season at Rochdale with the less than impressive record of one goal in 30 games - 28 from the bench, and is currently plying his trade in the Liverpool County League.
