No sporting director on ESG Ltd.

There are now ten board members of the Edgar Street Grid, the company set up to redevelope some 100 acres of Hereford which includes the area around the Hereford United football club.

The latest director appointed is Robert Maskrey whose family furniture business is well known in Wales. He is said to be a keen patron of the arts and has a local interest in the Hay-on-Wye Literary Festival.

The other nine members of the company, now known as ESG Herefordshire Ltd, are mainly drawn from business. Well-known local farmer and venture capitalist Clive Richards is the chairman.

However none of the directors have any sporting background according to the CV's on the ESG website. With Hereford United one of the main attractions in the area, it does appear surprising that not one director has been appointed with at least some sporting links.

The board says it will have an excutive team of around six people which is currently being assembled and is expected to be at full strength by mid 2007.

It also says that 'It is highly unlikely that building work will start before 2009/2010.' Whether this includes much needed improvements to the Edgar Street ground is not made clear.

However nowhere on their website is there a mention of the football club.
