Preview: Bulls vs Darlington

The Bulls entertain managerless Darlington on Saturday, and will be looking to end a run of eight games without a win over the Quakers.

The last time the teams met was in February 1997 at Edgar Street when the game ended 1-1. On loan Carl Beeston scored for the Bulls with a young Robbie Blake, who went on to command over £3million in transfer fees, equalising for the Quakers in front of just 2,003.

The most famous games are the play-off matches of the previous season. After beating the Bulls twice in normal league competition, Darlington were hot favourites after the Bulls managed to scrape into a play-off place for the first time ever. Over 6,500 watched each game as Darlington won both legs but eventually failed in the final.

The Bulls will be defending a record of two straight home league wins, with the only home losses coming to the sides currently second and third in the league. Sunday's televised loss to Grimsby highlighted Graham Turner's problems to the nation, but the solutions seem distant with Turner apparently pinning his hopes on Crewe midfielder Ben Rix to strengthen the side. With Rix still required by Crewe, as he has been all season so far, many fans are now looking to Turner to find answers in other directions after three weeks of waiting for Rix.

Darlington's board will spend the week sifting through managerial candidates, while caretaker bosses Martin Gray and Neil Maddison will seek defensive reinforcements after a five goal horror show at home to Rochdale. The Quakers sit one place above the Bulls on goal difference but haven't kept a clean sheet in six matches.
