Roberts to Ipswich from Stanley

Accrington Stanley's Gary Roberts has signed a three month loan deal at Ipswich Town.

Eric Whalley, the Accrington chairman, has commented on the deal.

"It's a great move for Gary, and a chance for him to test himself at a higher level. He's done well for Accrington and we wish him all the best over the coming months.

"I am sure that we will be criticised for the decision to let Gary go, however I can assure supporters that we wouldn't agree to any deal unless it was first of all right for the club, and also right for the player. Income from loans or transfers isn't part of our budget and so we're not in the position where we have to let players leave to survive. The Yeovil offer earlier this year was good for Gary, but not right for Accrington Stanley, and so we turned it down. This is an even better offer for Gary, and playing at a higher level, but most importantly it is right for Accrington Stanley. Obviously it leaves us with a smaller squad but I know that John has been very busy looking to add to the side, hopefully ahead of Saturday's game against Walsall."

Accrington's gates have been disapponiting this season to date. They average 2468.

Ex Hereford United players now at Accrington, David Brown and Andy Tretton, are seldom in the team at present.
