Bristol Rovers set to lose £650.000

Bristol Rovers are set to lose around £650,000 this season unless the team performs better and the crowds return.

Chairman, Geoff Dunford, told an EGM that his board had worked on an average home gate of 5,500 but were averaging 4,900.

"A lot depends on performances on the pitch, and although ball-park figures could be a loss of between £600,000 and £650,000, we are hoping for an upturn," said Dunford as reported by the Western Daily Press.

"The budget was for attendances of 5,500, but at this moment in time we are below that."

The expected loss may cast doubt on the continued ability of Bristol Rovers to pay the kind of wages former Hereford United player Ryan Green was said to have moved from Edgar Street for.

It also suggests that Rovers may not be able to cherry pick players, such as Hereford United's Andy Williams, from other clubs.
