McIntosh chooses Mansfield before Hereford

Martin McIntosh, the veteran defender, has chosen to join Mansfield as opposed to Hereford United according to the Nottingham press.

McIntosh, now 36, was released by Huddersfield at the end of last season. He has had 491 starts and scored 50 goals during his career.

"It is a big signing for us and he is someone we have been after since just after the end of last season," said Mansfield's assistant manager Paul Holland.

"He is your typical Scottish hard man who is an excellent defender and a great organiser.

"There were other clubs interested and I think one of them, Hereford, offered slightly more money than we did.

"But he lives close to us in Sheffield and we have sold the club to him and the potential we have here and he likes what he has heard."
