West Brom visit Edgar Street on Friday

West Bromwich Albion will be the visitors to Edgar Street on Friday evening for the first home friendly of the pre-season for Hereford United.

It will be the fifth friendly for the Baggies. They are set to play Northampton this evening. For Hereford it will be their third friendly and the first against League opposition. At present it is uncertain how strong a team manager Tony Mowbray will send to Edgar Street but with recent transfer activity there could be several top class players on show.

The Baggies have been in the transfer market this week with the expected signing from Luton of defender Leon Barnett and possibly Stoke defender, Carl Hoefkens. They have already signed Craig Beattie, Shelton Martis and Filipe Teixeira. However their captain Curtis Davies could be about to move to Newcastle and Jason Koumas and Diomansy Kamara have already moved to new clubs.

Striker Kevin Philips is one player who might feature at Edgar Street. He has been suffering with hamstring injury.

For Hereford, Graham Turner, is expected to have another look at several trialists including Lionel Ainsworth who is understood to be considering an offer, Joe Hutchinson, 'keeper Adam Collins, Simon Johnson and Chris Zebroski.

To date Hereford United have the following fourteen players signed: Smith, Brown, McClenahan, Beckwith, Broadhurst, Rose, Webb, Taylor, Guinan, McCombe, Gwynne, Fitzpatrick, Easton, and Palmer.

The game starts at 7.45pm and admission is £8 for Adults and £4 for concessions to any part of the ground.

Supporters will remember a friendly against West Brom several seasons ago when the visitors brought a team comprised of several pros and a few youngsters. Tamika Mkandawire, who later joined Hereford, was one of the youngsters playing that evening in July 2003.
