Tim Sills continued his impressive start to the season as he struck twice late on for Torquay in a comfortable 4-0 win over Blue Square Premier newcomers Salisbury City. The Gulls, relegated from League Two last season, lead the league by one point from Stevenage, with Cambridge and Aldershot close behind too. The Shots claimed three points at Forest Green this evening, with a 3-2 victory despite Stuart Fleetwood's early opener for the home side.
Elsewhere, in the Johnstone Paint Trophy, League Two sides Chester, Grimsby and Morecambe all progressed in the Northern Section at the hands of higher graded opponents. Play-off winners Morecambe continued their fine start to the cup season, following up victories at both Preston and Wolves, with a 1-0 win at Tranmere.
In the Southern Section, Peterborough went to Nottingham Forest and despite falling behind twice, won 3-2, with former Stevenage winger George Boyd grabbing the winner. Dagenham and Redbridge also progressed away from home, winning on penalties at Southend. Shrewsbury however were knocked out by Yeovil Town at Huish Park.
