Preview: Notts County vs Bulls

The Bulls face a second successive away trip in four days, looking to return to form after a disappointing defeat at Grimsby.

Historically, the Bulls will be making only their third trip to Meadow Lane. Last season's 1-0 win was the first part of a double against the Magpies but their previous trip saw a heavy 4-1 defeat nearly 31 years ago. Tim Sills' goal last season was his last (of two) in a Bulls shirt.

The Magpies have an unbeaten start at home, with two wins and two draws, and sit three points behind the Bulls. They were surprise early front runners last season, but ran out of steam quickly finishing 13th. This season they are expected to be somewhere near the play-off zone and a good win over the then top side Chesterfield on Saturday helps to prove their capabilities.

Unlike last season, veteran frontman Jason Lee is not the main goalscorer so far this time. The fifteen goal striker, who also collected eighteen yellow cards, scored twice against the Bulls last season at Edgar Street but is yet to striker after seven appearances this term. Midfielder Richard Butcher, a summer signing from Peterboro, has four from eight League games while ex-Bull Neil Mackenzie has two.

The Bulls will need to up their performance if they are to get anything from the game after a disappointing outing at Blundell Park. Theo Robinson will seek a recall after missing out on a starting place in the last three games, while Trent McClenahan will also look to return to a full back role.

Notts County vs Hereford United, Meadow Lane, Tuesday 2nd October, 7.45pm.
