In his days at Yeovil, Ben Smith was known as Benny Boy and although it is six years since he left Somerset, the press there still remember his time at Yeovil. Smith is currently captain of Hereford United and will lead his team out at Edgar Street on Sunday when Cardiff City come to town.
The Somerset Gazette says that Smith was one of the most gifted players to have worn a Yeovil shirt but on times he could be frustrating.
One moment he would have supporters on the edge of their seats in amazement at his skills, and the next Smith would have the fans' heads in their hands in exasperation.
In the 2000/01 season he played a big role in Yeovil's fine FA cup run when they defeated Colchester United and Blackpool before narrowly going down 2-1 at the Reebok Stadium in the Third Round to Bolton Wanderers.
He left Yeovil at the end of the 2000-01 season following the departure of manager Colin Addison.
The article by Steve Sowden finishes with this nice jesture.
Smith played his part in Hereford's FA Cup Third Round Replay success over Tranmere Rovers - ironically Yeovil's opponents tomorrow in the Coca-Cola League One.
But I am sure all Yeovil fans, despite the rivalry with our 'friends' at Edgar Street, would like to wish Benny Boy the very best of luck for Sunday.
