Hereford United striker Trevor Benjamin has been telling the Welsh press (who picked up the story from the Hereford Times) about his life in football. He's played in the premiership and would like to play at a higher level at sometime in the future.
But first there's the visit of Cardiff City to Edgar Street on Sunday, a game Benjamin thinks the Bulls can win.
And he stills talks about his car crash on the way home from Bradford recently.
“My car was a write-off,” said Benjamin. “I can’t remember much about what happened because I hit my head.
“I remember driving and the next thing my car was rolling over. I walked out of the wreckage with just a few cuts and bruises.
“I was lucky. Somebody must have been watching over me that day.”
Benjamin remembers his time in the premiership whilst playing for Leicester after then manager paid £1.5M for him in 2002.
“It was like going from rags to riches.
“It was scary. I was a young lad playing in the Premiership at places like Old Trafford, Highbury and Anfield.”
Whilst attached to Leicester he was loaned out five times.
“You are either wanted or you’re not.
“Football is a great game, but it can also hurt you. It’s as simple as that. If I am not wanted I just accept it.
“I love playing football.”
He spoke about Hereford.
“We have a good team spirit and an excellent manager and coach,” said Benjamin.
“We have a number of players who can play at a higher level.
“We have surprised a few people this season and hopefully there will – be a few more surprises along the way.”
Benjamin's contract at Edgar Street finishes at the end of this season.
“I am still hoping to play at Championship or even Premiership level,” said Benjamin. “And you never know what might happen in football.”
