Rob Powell's beard is still growing and with a bit of luck on Sunday, it might be another few weeks before he shaves it off. So what made this Hereford United supporter put away his razor.
Last week Rob explained the reasoning to Bulls News:
John Cutler and his son Tom, Neal Sharp and myself were on our way home in my car from the Peterborough away game when we heard the draw for the 1st round of the FA Cup - Leeds United! In the euphoria and banter that followed between us someone, possibly me, suggested that we stop shaving until we got knocked out of the competition.
As you know, I do relish challenges and I took up this one never really thinking that we would beat Leeds, Hartlepool and Tranmere. John soon succumbed to the disapproval of Sue his wife - chicken! and Neal did grow a beard but kept it neatly trimmed to maintain some sophistication and pride unlike myself! Eunice, my wife, did actually quite like my emerging stubble.
As my beard has grown so has my confidence in the team. They never seem to know when they are beaten and will fight to the end. Credit for this must go to Graham Turner, John Trewick and the team but, as all fans, I like to think that I can play my part in cheering the team on to victory over Cardiff and beyond.
My only regret is that I did not get sponsored to grow the beard for the MS Society, a charity close to my heart which does such tremendous work in Herefordshire. Please send your donations after the final!
