One Week Until Transfer Deadline

With just one week to go until the transfer deadline, there has been little movement at Edgar Street.

The only deals confirmed so far are extensions to the loans of defenders Robbie Threlfall and Lee Collins, and the signing of winger Jack MacLeod - described by Graham Turner as "by no means ready for the first team".

The promised replacement for Lionel Ainsworth is still forthcoming, with Turner only naming one of his transfer targets so far - Bristol City man Alex Russell. The veteran central midfielder opted for Cheltenham instead on loan, but may be revisited in the summer when he is believed to be out of contract.

Supporters have been eager to see reinforcements, especially in the forward roles. The lengthy absences of wing man Clint Easton and striker Steve Guinan have stretched cover for the attacking roles to the limit with either no forward or the inexperienced, and unused this season, Marcus Palmer on the bench.

Loans are permittable after the January 31st deadline but the squad has four loan signings in until the end of the season and League rules say that only five are permittable within the 16 man matchday squad leaving little room for true emergencies without affecting other players.

With most of his time taken up this week with the FA Cup match with Cardiff, Turner will have to focus all his attention to reinforcing his squad before the window slams shut as soon as the final whistle blows on Sunday.
