Preview: Bulls vs Cardiff

The Bulls entertain Cardiff City for the first time in nearly 11 years at Sunday's FA Cup Fourth Round match.

In the last meeting in February 1997 former Bulls midfielder Gareth Stoker scored the Cardiff goal, was later sent off, and committed GBH on a dressing room door. Ex-Bulls Tony Elliott, Kevin Lloyd, and Ian Rodgerson also lined up for the Bluebirds which ended as a 1-1 draw thanks to an Adrian Foster equaliser in front of just under 5,000 fans. Future Bluebird John Williams was in the Bulls side, but former Bulls striker Steve White missed the game through injury after a controversial departure from Edgar Street after being offered only a one year contract extension.

Overall the Bulls have recorded only one win over the Bluebirds at Edgar Street, that coming way back in 1976 with five draws, four in the last five meetings, and four defeats. The only FA Cup meeting between the sides came at Ninian Park in November 1988 when Cardiff ran out 3-0 winners in the First Round match.

The Bulls are being told to 'show bottle' by manager Graham Turner, the only survivor of the last meeting between the clubs. Better conditions than those at Saltergate on Monday night should help the players in the club's first Fourth Round match in 16 years. Sunday's game will be Graham Turner's 42nd FA Cup match with the Bulls, with 21 wins and eight draws so far.

Cardiff's financial worries have seen a string of their talented youngsters poached by Premiership sides, but they are still capable of high profile sigings as the summer coup with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Robbie Fowler proved. Fowler will miss Sunday's game through injury and Hasselbaink, fast approaching 36, is unlikely to play the whole game. Ex-Bull Paul Parry, making his first return to the Edgar Street pitch since his move four years ago, is top scorer with only seven goals. He leads a pack of seven players with five or more goals.

Hereford United vs Cardiff City, Edgar Street, Sunday 27th January, 12.30pm.
