Nice new stand - when it's finished

Rotherham's ground, known as Millmoor, is a mixture of old and new. And the new may be quite impressive when it's finished.

But at present the whole ground looks like as though a stand or part of a stand has been added every twenty years or so.

Hereford United supporters were housed in half of an old gently sloping stand known as the railway end. The entrance to the stand was down a small lane which bordered a scrap merchants and some disused rusty buildings.

Whilst the supporters were able to create a lot of noise and atmosphere, the way the stand sloped meant that they were a long way from the pitch. It was quite dificult to see all the action at the far end. Totally different to the away stand at Bradford for example which despite being old allowed supporters an excellent view of the game.

Meanwhile full marks should go to the Rotherham stewards who were both friendly and helpful. The Yorkshire police, out in large numbers, were also on good form. And the coffee was 30p cheaper than at Edgar Street.

Finally Hereford United adult supporters were charged £20 to watch this afternoon's game. One wag suggested that the price was so high because Rotherham need every penny they can find to finish their new stand which is rumoured to be costing anything between £4 and £7 million.

UPDATE: It appears that the scrap yard is owned by the same person who owns the ground. The club is talking about a move as the rent he is charging the club is about £4,000 a week. The new stand may never be completed.
