Mansfield have had their capacity at Field Mill cut in half again - because of the change in Chairman.
James Derry's departure and Tony Egginton's appointment means that, according to the local Safety Advisory Group, the capacity must be cut until Egginton is fully adjusted to the safety aspects of his role. The Chairman of the club is the General Safety Certificate Holder, and recent stewarding issues at Field Mill have seen the SAG force the club to operate on reduced capacity all season.
The 50% cut, to 4,684, was initially brought in during the close season after poor stewarding towards the end of the previous campaign. It was increased to over 7,000 in January after passing a number of safety tests but they have had a series of small incidents since that have angered the SAG.
The Stags were hoping for a bumper gate for tonight's crunch match with Wrexham. Admission had been reduced to £10 to win back fans disillusioned with the protracted takeover, but only 3,600 Stags fans and 1,000 from Wrexham will now be allowed in to the ground.
Meanwhile, Accrington's April Fools joke of changing their name may be less of a joke after the suggestion gained a positive reaction. Chairman Eric Whalley told the Lancashire Telegraph: "We've had emails and telephone calls from all over Lancashire from people saying they support the idea since we put it on our website.
"Our attendances this season have been awful. The 1,200 people we get week in and week out deserve a medal. But the people of Accrington don't deserve a league team."
