The Lights Go Out On Darlington's Promotion Push

Our special correspondent made the short trip to Underhill this evening to see how Darlington fared. Below, in own particular style, is his report:

After promising Mrs Parka a goal feast the match between Barnet and Darlington was a dreadful affair. After settling into the new and very comfy South Stand surrounded by Polish families enjoying a cheap night out in London we sat back as the teams came out to enjoy the game.

Before a ball had been kicked the floodlights failed putting back the kick off by 30 mins.

Some fans may have wished they had stayed off all night - especially the travelling support from Darlington whose late night had just got later.

In a game dominated by Darlington kicking the ball into the air and kicking any Barnet player who seemed to be nearby there were few chances and few shots on target. I am pleased to report that Rob Purdie was easily the best player for Darlington and his frustration at the awfulness of those around him led to him receiving a yellow card when he made a late tackle.

On this showing it would be surprising if Darlington score another goal this season. Lumping the ball forward Joachim looked two or three yards off the the pace and Lee Harrison in goal for Barnet did not make a save all evening.

The Barnet crowd tried to rally their team in the second half as they were playing downhill towards the south stand and they had some excellent free kick positions on the edge of the box, and a few great chances, but these were all wasted.

So to conclude - Darlington are in freefall and are playing very badly. Barnet should have taken all three points. Quite simply the lights have gone out on their promotion bid. The third automatic place is there for us to win.
