Peterboro are to name Wycombe's Argentinian winger Sergio Torres as their new signing, just a few days after Wycombe denied they had received any bids. Torres, 26, was discovered in non-league football while working as a shelf stacker in Boots after funding his own way to England for an unsucessful trial with Brighton. The Posh also had a £100,000 bid for Ebbsfleet striker John Akinde accepted, but have withdrawn from the deal blaming Fleet manager Liam Daish.
Tranmere have signed Millwall striker Bas Savage to a two year deal. The 26 year old was only offered a chance to prove his worth at the New Den after a short term deal last season saw him score twice in eleven appearances. Stockport have failed in two six-figure bids for Morecambe midfielder Carl Baker. The former Southport man scored ten times from 42 games in his, and the Shrimps, opening Football League season.
Morecambe themselves have seen two bids rejected by Accrington for midfielder Ian Craney. Craney only returned to Stanley in January after a failed £85,000 move to Swansea. Meanwhile Stanley boss John Coleman had the backing of only 19% of fans in an internet poll. John McCombe has spoken of his chances of the captain's armband at Port Vale: "I would want the armband if it was offered, but I'm only 23, and not as experienced as some of the others."
Colchester have loaned striker Jamie Guy to Oxford for the season. He is Oxford's third League One striker loan signing of the week. Halifax will be known next season as FC Halifax Town after the FA did a u-turn and accepted the name. The Shaymen have named Nigel Jemson as their assistant boss.
MK Dons have released veteran Colin Cameron after new boss Roberto Di Matteo opted not to offer a new deal. The former Wolves man managed less than half their games last season and has gone on trial at Dundee. Cheltenham have failed in a bid for winger Mark Kennedy, who has opted to go to Ninian Park for a season after leaving Crystal Palace.
Leicester have signed Arsenal full back Kerrea Gilbert on a season long loan. He previously spent a season at Cardiff, and a six month spell at Southend last season where he made only six appearances. Oldham have signed teenage Man Utd striker David Williams. The 17 year old was released earlier in the summer and has been given a one year deal at Boundary Park.
