Randolph talks about his move to Hereford

Republic of Ireland U21 international, Darren Randolph, who has just joined Hereford United from Charlton on a season long loan deal, spent the majority of the second half of last season on loan at Bury before being recalled to SE7 in April after regular keeper Nicky Weaver's sending-off at Plymouth Argyle.

However with Weaver expected to be manager Alan Pardew's first choice Addicks shot-stopper this term, 21 year old Randolph has been allowed to depart for Edgar Street.

"I'm happy just to get away and get some games under my belt and hopefully play on a regular basis before coming back stronger both mentally and physically," Randolph told the official Charlton website.

"The Southampton game (last April) sticks in my mind for the wrong reasons as I made the mistake which led to their goal. But obviously everyone makes mistakes and I'm actually pleased it has happened now when I'm young and still learning and I think I can benefit from it in the future."

Edgar Street will be Randolph's fourth loan move after previous spells at Accrington Stanley, Gillingham and the Shakers.

"I've been to Gillingham, Accrington and Bury and they've all helped me learn and given me good experience. It's proper football with grown men in games that really mean something.

"I had a slow start at Bury last season but after the first three or four games I felt I did well for the rest of my time there and I enjoyed it."

Whilst with Bury Randolph's keeping was noticed by Hereford United manager Graham Turner.

"Graham commented after the game that he hoped he'd never see me again," recalled Randolph. "Hopefully now I can put the same performances in for him that I did in that game!"

His time at Edgar Street may be disrupted by a call up to the Irish squad.

"The U21s have got two more qualifiers to play - against Serbia & Montenegro and Bulgaria. We can't qualify but it's still good to play in those sort of games and get the exposure.

"After that one of my goals this season is to get called into the senior squad on a regular basis but that's not going to happen unless I start playing regular games and perform like I know I can."

Randolph (pictured with Samson on the right) kept goal for the Bulls at Kidderminster last night until replaced by Craig Samson at half-time. After an awful mistake which led to the only goal of the game, Randolph gave a confident display.
