John Charles - European Hall of Fame

Hereford United have had a former player inducted into the European Hall of Fame this week.

John Charles has been selected as one of the best British players, based on their achievements in European competitions.

The Gentle Giant, who starred for Wales, Juventus, Leeds and later joined the Bulls, was included in a 10-strong list selected by an expert judging panel including Sir Tom Finney, Sir Trevor Brooking, Jimmy Greaves, Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Mark Lawrenson.

Others joining Charles are former Leeds manager Brian Clough, Liverpool legends Kenny Dalglish, Kevin Keegan and Bob Paisley, Manchester United's George Best, Sir Bobby Charlton, Sir Alex Ferguson, Sir Matt Busby, and ex-England manager Sir Bobby Robson.

Whilst Charles joined Hereford United towards the end of his career he will also be remembered for building the squad that was so successful in the early seventies.
