Preview: Bulls vs Oldham

The Bulls entertain Oldham for the first time in 32 years for a League One match on Saturday.

It is only the third time that the two sides have shared a Football League division. The reverse fixture at Boundary Park saw the Bulls lose 4-0, with Stephen O'Leary sent off and Bradley Hudson-Odoi subbed for forgetting a spare pair of boots. The Bulls have only one win over the Latics from six attempts - a 5-3 win in April 1977. Only Steve Guinan of the current squad had been born by then.

The Bulls should finally get their 2009 fixtures off to a start after two aborted efforts. Three weeks without football may leave them a little rusty, with their opponents playing twice in that time, but a few niggling injuries have had time to clear up and only Stephen O'Leary will miss the match with his ongoing problems. Even Sam Oji, whose immediate future remains up in the air, is back in training after four months.

Oldham have turned to Dad's Army to provide the goals after 32 year old Lee Hughes was handed 39 year old Dean Windass to be his strike partner. 22 goal Hughes has been the subject of interest in the transfer window, but few appear willing to part with the £400,000 that his contract clause demands. Pre-season financial concerns over a series of bust sponsors appear to have disappeared, with gates averaging 400 higher than last season.

Hereford United vs Oldham Athletic, Edgar Street, Saturday 17th January, 3.00pm.
