Shergar chose to go to Belgium

Mark Venus, assistant manager at West Bromwich has spoken about Sherjill MacDonald's latest loan away from the Hawthorns. 'Shergar' had a loan spell at Hereford last season and it had been hoped he might have been tempted back.

"Sherjill could have gone to a few English clubs, but he chose not to," Venus told the West Brom OS.

"He is going to a league he knows well, having previously played for Anderlecht.

"It hasn't really happened for him here, maybe because he just hasn't had the time on the pitch that we wanted to give him.

"So he's gone back to Belgium and hopefully he can get some football, get on the pitch, play well and we'll see how it goes from there.

"Whether he comes back rejuvenated like Craig Beattie did from Crystal Palace, or whether he goes on to wherever, it is a chance for him to play week in, week out."
