Stockport Deny Administration Claims

Stockport have denied they are in imminent danger of entering Administration, but admit they have 'short term challenges' in keeping the club solvent.

A Manchester Evening News report suggested the club owes a major amount to the Inland Revenue, and have a number of other outstanding bills, but Managing Director Mark Maguire told the paper:

"We budgeted at the start of the season for a certain level of player sales. We've had to review that with the costs we've faced since, such as the cost of policing games which has gone through the roof. We have to honour our commitments and balance the books.

"We have contingency plans if (players are not sold). Clearly we would be negligent as a board if we put all our eggs in one basket. We've got a payment plan with the Inland Revenue, including paying off a historic debt going as far back as when Carlton Palmer was involved with the club. We're in full consultation with the Inland Revenue. I wouldn't call the situation grave. The club is just being prudent."

Last week manager Jim Gannon, a qualified accountant, presented the club with proposals to sort out the club's finances with up to four members of his squad being courted by higher graded clubs.
