Costly Exercise with Goalkeepers

In his weekly column for the Hereford Times, Graham Turner has noted the extra cost of goalkeepers this season at Edgar Street.

We had Darren Randolph who eventually refused to play for us and was returned to Charlton.

Matt Murray came in and looked an absolutely outstanding goalkeeper but lasted just two-and-a-half games.

Chris Weale took his place, played one game in our victory at Colchester and then broke a thumb in training.

Craig Samson has been struggling with a groin problem and so now we have brought in young Peter Gulacsi from Liverpool.

When I put the chairman’s hat on, bringing in five goalkeepers has been a very costly exercise and, in the cases of Murray and Weale, they were both on loan for a month so we have to pay for a month.

So the bills have been coming in thick and fast for our loan players from whom, so far this season, we have not had the best of value for no fault of their own.
