Turner comments about the Future

Graham Turner has commented on the latest accounts and how he views in future in his latest interview with BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"The chairman and directors of the club think the figures are very pleasing especially amidst the problems a lot of clubs are now facing. There is talk of several going into administration," said the Hereford United chairman.

"As a manager I would have liked to have spent money, it wasn't for the want of trying. We made bids for players both last close-season and during the January transfer window.

"But it's a combination of things - the location of the club, the size of the club, to some extent finance - players did not want to come to us that we wanted.

"We're looking at the sort of quality player that maybe the likes of Huddersfield, and one or two others of that size, are looking at.

"So when it comes to a decision between clubs we're always going to miss out. It's something we've got to put up with.

"Come the close-season, I think we'll be in a strong position to strengthen the squad.

"There are so many clubs in financial difficulties - it could lead to our advantage in the summer.

"There is a forecast that over the next three years it will be very difficult in football. Sponsorship and crowds will go down and then galloping inflation in the third year. The forecasts are pretty gloomy.

"For us to be in the position we're in, we will withstand that recession and we'll be strong at the end of it all."
