Doors Locked At Darlington

Darlington's Administrator sent home the club's staff and locked the stadium doors today.

A spokesman says the company in Administration has made all staff redundant, with the move believed to be linked to the cancellation of Wednesday's friendly with Middlesboro. None of the staff were yet to receive any of the five months wages they are owed, with the Administrator saying the £100,000 raised so far by the pre-season matches going to cover ongoing bills at the club.

The Administrator was 'caught on the hop' by the local press earlier, telling them the club wasn't shut and that a full statement would be issued in the next day or two. Prospective owner Raj Singh was critical of the Administrator following the move and says that his lawyers will investigate where the money from the friendlies has gone:

"I am the buyer and the administrators need to satisfy me - not the other way round. The staff have organised pre-season games and have been preparing for the season. The money for the pre-season games has been taken by the administrators, so I don't know why they have taken this action today. It is in the hands of my lawyers."
